Contested Lead Battle Before Late Race Misfortune.

Steller Motorsport’s second race of the 2020 Intelligent Money British GT Championship at Donington Park saw the team in contention for an overall podium finish until the final 40 minutes of the three hour race.

After qualifying ninth in the hugely competitive GT3 field, Steller’s new for 2020 Audi R8 LMS GT3 made progress up the order with Richard Williams starting strongly and making up places before handing the #30 car over to Sennan Fielding.

By the halfway point Sennan was up to second overall and battling hard for the race lead.

Deep into the final hour though with a podium finish looking within reach, the team was dealt a 16 second stop/ go penalty for an earlier infraction in the pits.

That meant the fight for a podium was over but the team battled to the checkered flagon seventh place, happy with the speed unlocked during the weekend and, almost as important with a brand new car, much more learned that will carry the programme forward.

Steller is now set to test ahead of their next race appearance in the Championship, the team keen to feature in the hunt for race wins and podiums.

Team Principal Gary Blackham said:

“We saw huge progress during the weekend at Donington, building on the lessons we learned at Brands Hatch.

“It’s very clear that there is more to come from this package and it was a delight to see Sennan fighting for the lead of the race for quite a time.

“We’re certain that with a little more time to prepare this car, and this team, can be real contenders for wins in GT3, just as we were last season with the GT4 Audi.

“We’ll have news very shortly of our plans for the remainder of 2020.”
